The default icons on windows are all generally defined by the program itself and there is no standard for their color theme or shape. As a result, you get this mismatched bunch of icons that are all different shapes and sizes.
With macOS Bug Sur, Apple introduced these rounded corner icons that were all themed in a similar way:
As much as I dislike Apple and some of their practices, their UIs are some of the best and the new icons do not disappoint.
I used the Apple icon style as inspiration to create my own theme for Windows 11 using Adobe Illustrator, which is the industry standard for creating logos and vector graphics.
Along with custom icons for the taskbar, I made custom icons for some of my most commonly used folders.
Samsung's flavor of Android, OneUI, had a similar issue; most default icons were correct and in the same theme, but many external app icons were just cropped to fit in the "Squircle" shape which made for many ugly-looking icons.
For these icons, I used a similar style to the taskbar icons but also stayed true to Samsung's default and Google's default icon styles.
Some of these are just color adjustments such as Camera and Discord, some are adjustments to the icon itself like Whatsapp, and some are completely original like the Ti-84, Ti-73, and Youtube Vanced.
